Gangetic West Bengal is bracing for scorching temperatures over the next five days, with many areas expected to be engulfed by heat wave conditions. The period from April 22 to 26 is likely to witness severe heat wave conditions in isolated pockets across the region. Additionally, neighboring states including Odisha, East Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar may also experience heat wave conditions in certain areas. On April 22, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha are expected to have warm night conditions, with maximum temperatures soaring beyond 40°C.
The rising temperatures have already shattered previous records in Bengal, with the mercury crossing the 42-degree mark in several areas. In response to the escalating heat, authorities have issued a heat wave warning in Kolkata, urging residents to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours, and seek shelter in cooler environments when possible.
